Today, I kicked off my AWS Challenge with a deep dive into several fundamental concepts. Hereโs what I covered:
AWS offers various pricing models to cater to different business needs:
Pay for compute or database capacity by the hour or second with no long-term commitments.
Save up to 75% over equivalent on-demand capacity by committing to use AWS for a 1 or 3-year term.
Purchase unused compute capacity at discounted rates of up to 90%.
Flexible pricing model offering significant savings over On-Demand by committing to a consistent amount of usage (measured in $/hour) for a 1 or 3-year term.
Physical servers fully dedicated to your use, helping you meet compliance requirements.
Traditional IT model where you manage your own data centers. Best for organizations needing complete control over their infrastructure for compliance, security, or legacy system reasons.
Services and infrastructure are hosted on the cloud. Ideal for businesses looking for scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency without the need for maintaining physical servers.
Combines on-premises infrastructure with cloud services. Suitable for businesses needing to balance workloads between private and public clouds, ensuring data security and regulatory compliance while leveraging cloud scalability.
Provides virtualized computing resources over the internet. Examples: AWS EC2, Google Compute Engine.
Offers hardware and software tools over the internet, typically for application development. Examples: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Google App Engine.
Delivers software applications over the internet, on a subscription basis. Examples: Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365.
AWS was launched in 2006, pioneering cloud computing. Key milestones include:
Launch of AWS with S3 and EC2.
Introduction of Redshift and DynamoDB.
AWS Lambda brought serverless computing.
AWS re:Invent announced new services like AWS Glue Elastic Views and Amazon EBS io2 Block Express.
AWS has grown tremendously, constantly innovating to meet evolving customer needs and setting industry standards.
I'm thrilled to continue this journey and share more insights in the coming days. Stay tuned!
